As of 2009, I'm happily employed with a team of smart and wonderful people at Phinney Bischoff Design House and NOT seeking employment. I will consider small evening/weekend projects on a case-by-case basis, depending on availability.
My professional experience is about 10 years, most of which has been in-agency in Seattle, with a couple years as a freelancer and some client-side (in-house) experience as well.
What do you bring to the table? I'm a graphic designer, but don't tell anyone. What I really do is get to the root of an issue and shine some light on it. Shining lights on roots? That often involves plenty of critical thinking, information architecture, strategic positioning and pro-active problem solving in many forms. My specialty is thinking big: mixing client objectives with design experience and marketing savvy to create designs that communicate clearly, emotionally and intellectually - graphic solutions that connect with users/viewers/readers. That's what it's all about: connecting with people. All the great ideas get executed through design, illustration, copy writing or user interface design - whatever it takes.
Do you make websites? Yes, with good old-fashioned hand-coded HTML/CSS, and I can do some Javascript and PHP and quite a bit of Flash too - although I don't often recommend the Flash these days. I'm not a developer by any stretch of the imagination - mostly my focus is on structuring/designing a good user experience. I can build "brochure sites" (like this one) myself, or partner with a "real" developer for larger, commercial projects.
As of 2009, I'm 31 years old, live in Seattle with my beautiful wife and big red dog. I'm a graphic designer with a degree in Geography, and love of the natural world. I'm a homebrewer, a lover of food, language, history and a lot of other nerdy things, but mostly, I love to be in the mountains. In the winter you'll find me slashing backcountry powder with a big smile on my face. When summer comes around, it's back to the hills again, hammering down a muddy singletrack, catching as much air as I can at the downhill bike park, or slogging toward a snow-covered summit with my skis on my back. It's a lot of self abuse, but something keeps me going back for more. I'm a full-time bike commuter and lover of music from White Zombie to the Black Eyed Peas.
